These are just some fundamental knowledge about gold jewellery

Von dudousi1, 30.03.2012, 07:19
Gold jewellery never goes out of fashion. Our ancestors from prehistoric times have made, used and loved jewellery made out of this

precious metal; it is a love that they have passed on to us, their descendants, and it is a love that will go Pandora Charms On Sale  on for eternity.

Jewellery makers, in particular, love gold; fine silver jewellery only comes as a poor second. The reason behind their marked

preference is because it can be made into any shape that the jeweller wants, no matter how thick or fine it is. Another desirable

quality is its durability; it is sure to last a lifetime.

As beautiful and desirable as it is, do you know how to buy it when you go shopping at jewellery shops? Shopping for gold pieces

takes more than selecting what you want from jewellery for sale and then giving your credit card or your signed cheque to the sales

assistant. If you know a few things about the material that you would like to purchase, such as its purity, its colour and its

solidity, it would help you a lot in making your choice.

The Purity of Gold

The purity of the metal used in crafting the jewellery of Pandora Store  your choice is one thing you should have a look at before you buy it.

Karat is the unit of measurement used in the United States to determine its purity, ranging from 24K to being the purest to 10K as

the least pure. It would be seldom that pure pieces would end up amongst jewellery for sale because pure gold is considered to be

too soft and impractical for use.

- 18K is an alloy made of 18 parts gold and 6 parts of other Pandora Charm Outlet  metals, or 75% gold. European jewellers would mark this as "750"

instead of 18K.
- 14K is an alloy made of 14 parts gold and 10 parts of other metals, or 58.3% gold. European jewellers would mark this as "585"

instead of 14K.
- 12K is an alloy made of 12 parts gold and 12 parts of other metals, or 50% gold.
- 10K is an alloy made of 10 parts gold and 14 parts of other metals, or 41.7% gold. European jewellers would mark this as "417"

instead of 10K.

The Colour of Gold

Most of the time, the jewellery pieces you would find Pandora Glass Beads are the bright yellow ones; yellow, after all, is the common colour. But

there are other forms of this precious metal that come in other colours as well. Gold that is not yellow is mixed with other

metals. Just what metals are mixed with the precious material is something you would need to know, especially if you are allergic

to some metals.

White gold is mixed with nickel or palladium. Although there are a lot of fine silver jewellery pieces that can pass for white

gold, the real thing really does stand out on its own. Pandora With Stones Rose gold, which is pinkish-coloured, is gold mixed with copper. Green gold

has silver in it.

The Solidity of Gold

If a piece of gold jewellery that you see at a jewellery sale is marked as 10K or higher, it means it is solid gold. But you will

occasionally find pieces that are marked as either gold-filled or gold-plated. This means that the piece only has a layer of gold

coating, a less precious metal. Gold-filled jewellery pieces have thicker gold layers than gold-plated ones. However, they are

still cheaper, less durable and definitely less valuable than solid gold.

These are just some fundamental knowledge about gold jewellery, but they will help you a lot as you shop for them.

Karoline Watson has been involved in the fine jewellery market for many years. This article outlines some of the qualities found in

the Ola Gorie range of gold jewellery.
